Doubt- Unrealized Design

Doubt is a tangled and messy world that is in a bubble of solace or disharmony. There is a tension to the atmosphere that creates the feeling of teetering on the edge of a cliff. There is an intimidating presence of the church with a constant feeling that something is bigger than one’s self. It makes the actors feel small while also having a looming and omniscient like quality to it. However, the realistic quality of the text is present throughout the rest of the set.

The world has a definite realistic quality that helps support the story. The realistic objects are simple in nature due to the characters personalities. Each of the main playing spaces has a different subtle feel. There is order and neatness to Sister Aloyisous’ office. The garden furniture is then set at angles and in a more open orientation to reflect Sister Jame’s warm personality. Finally the sermons present powerful statements throughout the show. This space has a more warm like quality while also being very simple yet powerful.
